The country's defence ministry has entered into a major agreement to strengthen the army amid a conspiracy to infiltrate China into Ladakh. The ministry entered into an agreement with two leading domestic defence companies on Monday to purchase pinaka rocket launchers at a cost of Rs 2580 crore for six military regiments.

For this, contracts have been signed with Tata Power Company Limited (TPCL) and Larsen & Toubro (L&T). While Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML), a defence sector psu, has also been made a part of the project.

Will be deployed on China-Pakistan border

Officials said, the Pinaka Regiment will be deployed on the Indian border with China and Pakistan to enhance the operational preparedness of the military forces. BEML will supply vehicles on which the rocket launcher will be placed. The Defence Ministry informed that the 6 Pinaka Regiment will also have 114 launchers, 45 command posts with automated gun aming and positioning system. The operation of the Missile Regiment is planned to commence by 2024.
